Cam Gigandet Chats About 'Priest' with MTV

'It's not like a 'vampire film'; there's so much more to it,' 'Priest' co-star Karl Urban tells MTV News at Comic-Con. Ever since he lit up the screen as delightfully devious "Twilight" villain James, Cam Gigandet's career has been on the rise. When MTV News caught up with him during Comic-Con on Friday (July 23), we asked about his character in the upcoming "Priest" — which is based on the celebrated comic book series — and, since the film coincidentally involves vampires, if he had any hesitation in taking on the part.
"I play Sheriff Hicks," he said. "I'm the sheriff of a small town where my girlfriend gets kidnapped by this pack of vampires, so I enlist Paul Bettany's, Priest's, help, and we are on the road to find and rescue her."
Gigandet said that, although there are vampires involved in the movie, fans expecting the romantic "Twilight"-style vamps will be in for a shock.
"It's very, very different from 'Twilight,' " he said. "The similarities kind of end with what they're called, which is vampires."
Gigandet said the world of "Priest," directed by Scott Charles Stewart, is also entirely different. "The world Scott created is kind of unlike any other," he said. "Sometimes it was hard to visualize what he had in his mind, but I've seen clips, and its unbelievable. ... Just to work with all of these people, they're such an amazing cast. I didn't have any doubts [about taking on another vampire-related role]."
Gigandet's co-star, "Star Trek" star Karl Urban, said he's never seen a movie like this. "This is a post-apocalyptic vampire western," he said. "The emphasis isn't heavily on the fact — it's not like a 'vampire film'; there's so much more to it."
As far as what "Twilight" fans can expect to see, and fans of the original comic book, Gigandet and his co-stars said there is something for everyone in the film, because it is emotional and character-driven.
"[There are] so many different levels, and so many people are doing things that sacrifice for all sorts of love," Gigandet said. "It's not just one set love story. There are so many different levels going on."
"Priest" is set to open in May 2011.

Kristen's 'On the Road' Co-star Has Nothing But Kind Words For Her

Even though they won't start shooting until August, Hedlund had nothing but nice things to say about Stewart. "She's got it all there. She's where she needs to be. She's fantastic," he gushed. He also said Sam Riley, who plays Jack Kerouac in the film, is "incredibly devoted and a hard worker and also a fantastic actor.
"We've had wonderful times up there in Montreal. Just hoping to make a wonderful film that can fulfill everyone's expectation of what this can actually be," Hedlund said. "The family that we're surrounded by is wonderful and unbelievable and, for me, I'm kind of on cloud nine."
Stewart also had nothing but kind words for Hedlund when we caught up with her at an "Eclipse" screening last month. "I've met him a bunch of times, and I've hung out with him twice," she said of her co-star. "He's a great guy. ... He's written crazy stuff for it. He's super into it. Not to sound ... I don't know how to put it. He's, like, so in character, and he's driving to Montreal. He's awesome. I'm really, really excited."
Anna Kendrick Featured in 'Scott Pilgrim' Montage
Fans of the 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World' graphic novel have been clamoring for any sneak peek at director Edgar Wright's action-packed film version.
Now, a series of remixes shows a few clues to the look and feel of the much-anticipated movie.
Like the seven evil exes Scott Pilgrim battles in the film to win the heart of his lady love, there will be seven total remixes done by UK musician Osymyso (who produced the soundtrack to 'Shaun of the Dead'). Each remix has a different theme pertaining to the movie.
Past remixes include 'Prepare' released on Empire, and 'Hey' released on UGO. Fans can see a new one each day leading up to Comic-Con on July 22.
The music in each remix varies from Beck to Metric. In the 'Love' remix, Osymyso mixes the track 'Hillcrest Park' by Nigel Godrich with scenes of Scott (Michael Cera) and his relationships with both the enigmatic Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and the obsessed Knives Chau (Ellen Wong).

MTV: Trailer For Nikki Reed's 'Last Day of Summer'
Before "The Twilight Saga," Nikki Reed was a well-respected indie actress, having come to fame after writing and starring in the semi-autobiographical movie "Thirteen," about a young girl who gets caught up in a fast life she's not quite ready for. Just because Nikki's been in some of the biggest movies of the past few years doesn't mean she's given up that indie streak.
Hollywood Crush has gotten its hands on the exclusive trailer for Nikki's latest indie venture, called "Last Day of Summer." It follows a menial fast food worker named Joe (the appropriately gawky DJ Qualls ... remember him from "Road Trip"?), who meets Nikki's Stefanie, a feisty young woman who catches Joe on a bad day — a very bad day.
After being tormented by his d-bag boss, played by William Sadler (aka the sheriff from "Roswell!"), Joe cracks and kidnaps Stefanie at gunpoint after she rebuffs his advances. Stefanie becomes more and more desperate as she tries to escape her inept kidnapper.
It looks like a great vehicle for Nikki to show off her acting chops, since obviously her Rosalie hasn't been a central character in the "Twilight" movies as of yet. And it's always nice to see DJ Qualls playing a grown-up instead of a gawky teenager.
