Ashley Greene Tells 'Elle' She Doesn't Want 'Twilight' To Define Her

Though she may be a newbie, Greene is navigating her exploding career with beyond-her-years maturity. “As much as I adore being part of Twilight, I don’t want it to define me,” she says. That means launching a cross-genre attack on the industry, starting with next year’s psychological thriller The Apparition, in which she stars opposite Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl’s crafty Carter Baizen) as one half of a college couple terrorized by a “presence” conjured in a university experiment. Greene is also testing her comedic powers, joining Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, and Jennifer Garner in the ensemble comedy Butter, which is based on a real-life Midwestern pastime: butter carving. “My character’s father [Ty Burrell] is, like, the Elvis of butter carving in this small town—he is the god,” Greene says.

Ashley Greene's Career Choices Are Putting Her in The Right Direction

Ashley Greene's recent casting in Butter is just one of many movies we'll get to see her take on a whole different film role than her Twilight Saga counterpart Alice Cullen.

Butter, which stars and is directed by Jennifer Garner, is a comedy where Ashley will play a "rebellious high school teenager named Kaitlen Pickler, who will be one of many competitive characters in a small Iowa town fighting over their annual butter-carving contest."

Along with this upcoming comedy, we'll also get to see Ashley in more projects including the horror flick, The Apparition, and Warrior, a movie which has her alongside her Eclipse co-star Kellan Lutz. And we can't forget about Skateland which made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival but has yet to find its way to domestic theaters.

Ashley Says 'Apparition' Delivers The Horror

Let's hope Ashley Greene's upcoming film, Apparition, delivers the goods! And I mean, horror movie goods!

Ashley Greene, last seen (and soon to be seen again) as Alice Cullen in the Twilight saga, gets her first starring role in the upcoming horror film The Apparition. The apparition in question is an evil force, unleashed by a university experiment, that haunts a young couple. Greene said the film will deliver the scares that have been missing from recent horror movies.

"With Apparition, they're going back to doing elevated thriller," Greene said in an exclusive interview on March 16 in Austin, Texas, where her film Skateland played at the South by Southwest film festival. "It's not going to be that slash-gore movie. It's that thing that just scares you to the core, and it's terrifying."

Still not convinced? Well, consider that in most horror movies you can yell at the screen "Don't go in there" and the characters won't listen to you. You might not be scared for people making bad decisions. Greene promises that her character in The Apparition makes the right choices but gets screwed anyway.

"The way that I can best explain it is that we do everything that a normal person would do," Greene said. "Everyone is going to watch it and say, 'Do this!' And that's what we're going to do. Unfortunately, it doesn't solve things, and we're still having to deal with them. I think that's the scariest part, is when you do everything that you should do and you still end up ruined."

The film will also provide Greene a full character arc and juicy scenes to really show her stuff. "I think range-wise and emotionally and physically, it's been extremely demanding," Greene said. "I've done things that I didn't know I could do, so I'm really proud of it. I'm really excited for everyone to see it."

The Apparition, written and directed by Todd Lincoln, is due out this year from Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment and Warner Brothers Pictures.

'Harry Potter' Actor Speaks Highly of Ashley Greene

Ashley Greene is currently in Berlin filming her newest movie, The Apparition, which also stars Harry Potter actor, Tom Felton or Draco Malfoy as you Harry Potter fans know him as. Also on the project is Gossip Girl's Sebastian Stan.

MTV sat down with the actor where he dished about Ashley Greene and how down-to-earth she is despite all this fame she has gained from her involvement with The Twilight Saga.

"She seems like a very, really positive, very, very friendly young lady, in no way at all 'Hollywood'," Tom said. "You know, I didn't have any expectations. In no way is she a diva or anything like that. She's a lovely girl and clearly extremely talented, which excites me to be working with such great young talent."
