Christina Ricci on Kissing Rob - 'Really Good Kisser!'

At last night’s Blackberry Torch launch in L.A., Christina Ricci couldn’t contain her feelings for her Bel Ami co-star Robert Pattinson. “We would just goof off and laugh while we were working—he’s a sweet guy and super funny…and a really good kisser!” she told us. And what was her favorite part of filming? “The costumes, the makeup and… Rob!” But Ricci admitted she hasn’t even seen the films that are responsible for his fame. “I was waiting for [The Twilight Saga films] to be on TV because the theaters were so crowded, but there’s no excuse!” Ricci also said it’s easy to understand why Kristen Stewart, who stopped by the set several times, is so smitten with her Twilight and real-life co-star Pattinson: “He’s so charming and such a smart guy. He’s so super organized and in charge of his career. He was actually giving me advice!” the veteran actress said.

NY Times Interview Discusses Rob's Other Projects

Water for Elephants, Bel Ami and Unbound Captives are all mentioned in the following excerpt from the NY Times interview with Rob. Rob also shares some great accounts about filming on the set of WFE.

To this end the London-born Mr. Pattinson has been busy accepting roles that seem linked only by a quirky diversity. In “Water for Elephants,” an adaptation of Sara Gruen’s novel, he plays a veterinarian who joins a Depression-era circus after his parents are killed. The indie “Bel Ami,” from the Maupassant novel, co-starring Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci, has him playing an unscrupulous social climber who rises to power in Paris by manipulating wealthy women. A possible role in a western called “Unbound Captives” calls for him to speak almost entirely in Comanche.

“Water for Elephants,” which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz, is awaiting a release date from 20th Century Fox. It’s the kind of serious literary role that could bring critical attention and stretch minds about Mr. Pattinson’s range. “There is a profound vulnerability about Rob and his mannerisms, and that makes him supremely accessible,” said Elizabeth Gabler, president of Fox 2000, the studio unit making the film. “He also has an innate kindness about him that is wonderful in this role.”

Mr. Pattinson has clearly enjoyed working on something else. He lit up when talking about the shoot, mentioning a scene in which a lion had to bite his arm and another where he had to spend hours shoveling horse manure — an unsettling detail given the grimy condition of his fingernails. “It feels like everyone is an Oscar winner except me,” he said of the cast and crew.

Much is riding on “Water for Elephants” because his leading roles outside of “Twilight” have disappointed or failed at the box office. The inexpensive romantic drama “Remember Me,” released in March, grossed only $19 million in North America. About $35 million in overseas ticket sales eased the pain a little, but the upshot was that Mr. Pattinson appeared unable to anchor a movie despite the “Twilight” nuttiness. “Little Ashes,” a foreign film in which Mr. Pattinson played a randy Salvador Dalí (and filmed before “Twilight”), barely registered a blip in limited release last year.

The only career advice Hollywood veterans have for Mr. Pattinson is to keep doing what he is doing. “Continuing to take different kinds of roles and continuing to take chances will ultimately work,” said Allen Coulter, who directed “Remember Me.” “People unwilling to see him as anything but Edward Cullen will eventually be worn down.”

Robert Pattinson on Bel Ami: It's about a character called Georges Duroy who is a broke ex soldier in Paris in 1890. He has no drive. He’s just jealous of everything. He’s completely talentless. The only thing he does is, by accident he finds this guy in the army with a brothel and this other guy want’s to impress him so he gives him money and buys him a round and it ends up being like he’s invited the Devil into his house. He seduces his wife. He seduces all his wife’s friends. Every single influential woman he can get, he has an affair with and it ends up screwing over the entire society.

Robert Pattinson on Water for Elephants: It's a story about a guy in 1931 whose parents both die in a car crash when he’s at Cornell University studying veterinarian science. He jumps on a train out of desperation to find something else and it ends up being this circus train. He ends up falling in love with the star attraction who’s also the wife of the ring master and all the chaos that ensues after that.

Robert Pattinson on Unbound Captives: It’s a Western. It’s a sort of romantic, drama, western. My character is the son of Rachel Weisz. He get’s kidnapped by Comanches when he’s four and is raised by them. And my mother spends like 15 years or something trying to find me and when she finds me and I come back I can’t speak English anymore. I don’t recognize her and she doesn’t recognize me and I have kind of massive ADD in it as well.

RP: I’m aware of that, believe me. I would never have the courage to do promo for this movie in Paris I’m so stressed. I met Mar ion Cotil lard during a party before film ing began and I asked her to read the script care fully because there was a per fect role for her. She asked me: “Why make Bel Ami in Eng lish? It’s weird isn’t it?” At that moment I under stood how the film will be received in your coun try. I hope it will suc ceed and that you will be open minded about it. What impresses me is that the book is not well known else where. I only dis cov ered it after read ing receiv ing the script and it imme di ately became one of my favourite books.

'Bel Ami' Sold at Cannes Film Festival

Scandinavia’s top distributors have announced the titles they acquired for the Nordic territories during the Cannes Film Festival.

Scanbox Entertainment has picked up Scandinavian rights to the UK titles Monsters, a sci-film film by Gareth Edward, and Bel Ami, starring Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman (sold by Protagonist Pictures); Spanish thriller Agnosia (Filmax); and Luc Besson’s Arthur and the Two Worlds War (EuropaCorp).

Life beyond 'Twilight'

Next subject. The three are actively trying to ward off post-Twilight typecasting by doing solo projects in between. Stewart and Pattinson, both bookworms and drawn to art-house fare, earned OK reviews but underwhelming ticket sales for their two recent releases, the girl-band bio The Runaways and the romantic melodrama Remember Me.

But they continue to be in demand for more mature roles. Stewart is psyched to be a part of a big-screen version of Jack Kerouac's On the Road, which starts shooting in August. Pattinson recently wrapped his work on the London set of Bel Ami as a 19th-century social-climbing rogue opposite Kristin Scott Thomas, Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci. Does he bed all three?

"Yes, but they're not like typical love scenes at all," he says.

Adds Stewart: "They're all a little weird. A little edgy. And a little nude." Chuckling ensues.

Meanwhile, Lautner — a natural athlete who played a high school track star in the box-office-topping ensemble comedy Valentine's Day— seems to be angling to become the next big action hero with upcoming roles in the thriller Abduction and Stretch Armstrong, a 3-D adventure based on a toybox muscleman.

Did he ever own one of the dolls, whose limbs could be pulled and elongated like taffy? "I don't remember having one at my house, but I totally remember stretching that sucker."

The first official images from Bel Ami starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci and Colm Meaney have been released and we’ve got them in high resolution after the jump. The film which also stars Philip Glenister and Holliday Grainger was shot on locations in and around London and Budapest during an eleven week shoot. Shooting wrapped on April 22nd.

Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, the film is an erotically charged story of ambition, power and seduction. Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson), travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession. Protagonist Films, the studio behind Bel Ami, will be promoting Bel Ami at Cannes. This is exciting news! Don’t expect Robert Pattinson to attend as he will be busy in pre-production for Water for Elephants but we look forward to seeing the other stars of the film.

In other news, there is speculation that Bel Ami will hit theatres at the end of the year in limited release before opening wider in the New Year. This is a tactic the studios will use in order to allow a film to be eligible for Oscar consideration for the February award season. It’s a common tactic used when producers believe a film and it’s actors to be Oscar worthy! Exciting news!

Hungary TV spoke with Robert Pattinson's double Szabi who worked with Rob on the Bel Ami set during filming.

According to Alexandra, during the interview Szabi also said he doesn't want to be seen as a "mini Robert Pattinson" forever.
